Mookaite
is a stunning multi-coloured stone found in the Kennedy Ranges near
Gascoyne Junction which is about 100 miles inland from the coastal
town of Carnarvon in Western Australia, which in turn is about 600
miles north of the capital, Perth.
The
name "mookaite" is derived from the locality where the rock
is dug, namely Mooka Creek. According to locals, the Aboriginal word "mooka"
means "running waters", no doubt in reference to the many fresh
water springs that feed Mooka Creek. |

known as Gem Silica. It is 2-4 on the Moh's scale and is sometimes
confused with turquoise. Very soothing look and feel to these lovely
minerals.
Vermeil (pronounced
vehr-MAY), also known as silver gilt, is a combination of sterling
silver, gold, and other precious metals. It is commonly used as a component
in jewelry. A typical example is sterling silver coated with 14-carat
gold. To be considered vermeil, the gold must also be at least 10-carat
and be at least 1.5 micrometres thick. Sterling silver covered with
another metal cannot be called vermeil. |

Coral
is a natural organic substance
that has been considered a precious
gem since prehistoric times.
It has been valued in jewelry
making for thousands of years.
It has long been popular in
a multitude of cultures, many
believing it has special powers.
Coral
jewelry has a timeless appeal,
and is more popular than
ever today. The demand continues
to grow despite new trade
and harvesting regulations
in Japan and Italy. Much
of our coral is from stockpiled,
unused beads, that have
been in the U.S. for many
years. Coral is an organic
gemstone and unfortunately,
coral reefs are endangered.
