In the first action, the stones (or castings) tumble in the bottom corner of the barrel and criss-cross from side to side. In the second action, the hexagon barrel shape forces the stones to abrade and change position within the mass six times per revolution. In the third action, the slanted back of the barrel moves a portion of the stones gently up and down while rotating. This 3-way action is a Covington® exclusive. The vibrating lap is designed to abrade and polish automatically. The inertia of the heavy rock slab holds it relatively still while the lap pan vibrates underneath. This action replaces the circular rotation used by conventional lapping machines.

Our new design and grooved plate gives you faster cutting. Bumper ring prevents gemstone damage. Pad insert enables work piece to be polished in the same pan. One thumb screw releases pan for easy cleaning.
